"Mindfulness is a practice that helps develop moment-to-moment awareness by strengthening the ability to pay attention to the present moment; to observe thoughts, feeling and sensations without judgement. The practice of mindfulness helps create a space between our thoughts and our reactions so we can respond in a way that is consistent with how we want to show up in the world."
We cultivate mindfulness through formal and informal meditation practices that still our minds, quiet our thoughts and increase our ability to fully engage in the present moment. Each of the four weeks of Mindfulness Foundations class we practice a formal and informal meditation; and engage in discussions about the habits of our own minds.
What causes us to feel stressed? Depressed? Worried? Anxious? Often these feelings begin with our thoughts. You will come to know the relationship between your own thoughts, emotions, body sensations and reactions. With this understanding we can take a breadth and decide how we want to respond to any situation that arises in our lives.
